The Anniversary Tapestry

Anniversary Cake

This weekend our family was blessed to have had the opportunity to mark an amazing milestone, my parents’ 50th wedding anniversary.  I’d like to share with you a poem I wrote in honor of them and in celebration of this momentous occasion…

The Anniversary Tapestry

On a loom prepared by the Master Weaver, the tapestry began to take shape when two individual threads met for the first time.

These two threads continued along their separate paths, occasionally connecting and intersecting, until the point at which they intertwined and two became one through the bonds of Holy Matrimony.

For 50 years, the Master Weaver’s work has carried on.

A close look at the details of this tapestry provides insights into the journey of the two threads intertwined.

A mixture of textures, some tapestry sections are smooth and straight.  Others are filled with knots and kinks.  Remembrances of the good times and the bad for the two threads intertwined.

A stunning array of colors spring forth from the many individual threads woven throughout the fabric.  These colorful threads serve as reminders of love, friendship, support, family.  While some threads have entered and departed the tapestry at various points along the way, others still continue to be woven alongside the two threads intertwined.

Intricate gradations of shading abound, from the dark areas of despair to the joy-filled spaces of light that mark the path of the two threads intertwined.

These intricate details come together in perfect harmony, revealing a stunning work of art that continues to grow and evolve.

The Anniversary Tapestry

A beautiful masterpiece

A legacy to pass on

An example to learn from and follow

A cherished reminder

Of the love and commitment shared by the two threads intertwined.
