The 5 Road Signs of Traveler Personalities

Knowing your Traveler Personality can offer valuable insights as you move along the path of self-discovery and through your journey to discover, explore and experience The Deep Life.  But what exactly is a Traveler Personality?  Here are 5 road signs of Traveler Personalities to guide you to a better understanding of this concept.

1.  Our Traveler Personality Represents Only One Small Part of our Overall Personality

“I praise You because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; Your works are wonderful, I know that full well.” (Psalm 139:14)

We are truly fearfully and wonderfully made.  God gifted each one of us in a unique way with our own unique personality.  The Traveler Personality concept represents only one small aspect of that personality, and that is the observable patterns of behavior based on our innate tendencies for how we gain energy, take in information, make decisions and approach life.

There are many factors that go into the development of our overall personalities.  In addition to our innate tendencies, other factors unique to us, such as our environment, our upbringing, our birth order, and our personal experiences combine to form our very own unique personality.

2.  All Travelers Are Equally Valuable

“We have different gifts, according to the grace given to of us.”  (Romans 12:6a)

Based on their innate tendencies and patterns of behavior, each individual traveler will most identify with one of four Traveler Personalities.  There is no right or wrong Traveler Personality.  We have each been blessed with our own unique gifts and a preferred way of approaching life’s journey.  One is no better or worse than the other.  Just different.

3.  Your Traveler Personality is a Gift, Not an Excuse

Just as each of us has a preference for right-handed or left-handedness, we each have a preferred way of approaching the world.  And, just as we can use our opposite hand when the situation calls for it, we can also employ our less preferred Traveler Personality tendencies.  It just requires a bit more energy and concentration to do so.

For example, someone with broken right hand would not be prohibited from penning their signature.  While it would certainly take more time and effort, the task could be accomplished with the left hand.  Similarly, someone more inclined to “big picture” thinking is not incapable of working out the details of a project.  It would just require more energy and concentration.

4.  Travelers of the Same Traveler Personality Are Not Necessarily the Same

It is important to keep in mind that although one traveler may share the same Traveler Personality with another, this does not necessarily mean they will approach situations in the same exact way.  While we may share similar tendencies and patterns of behavior with others, we are all unique individuals who are influenced by factors beyond those similarities.  The Traveler Personality descriptions are simply an aid to help you better understand yourself and others, they are not are not meant to be a forced label or a rigid descriptive box to be squeezed into.

5.  Appreciate The Differences

“Just as a body, though one, has many parts, but all its many parts form one body – whether Jews or Gentiles, slave or free – and we were all given one Spirit to drink.  Even so the body is not made up of one part but many.”  (1 Corinthians 12:12-14)

Taking the time to learn more about the other Traveler Personalities and how and why they differ from our own can lead to a greater appreciation and respect for one another.  It can also lead to an increased understanding of how we can effectively use those differences in concert with one another for the benefit of all.
