What Your Traveler Personality Can Tell You About Yourself

Cloud Dragon

While each and every one of us has our own unique path to follow on this journey we call life, we do share some similarities with others in the the way in which we approach life’s journey.  Let’s take a closer look at two specific ways by answering two questions.

1. Do You Generally View Life From 30,000 Feet or At Ground Level?

Some travelers tend to be more abstract in their approach to life and often pay more attention to future possibilities than present realities.  They focus more on the big picture, often asking theoretical questions such as “what,” “why,” and  “what if.”

Others tend to approach life in a more concrete way and are often more concerned with the here and now than what might be.  They are more detail-focused, often asking realistic questions such as “who,” “what,” “when,” “where,” and “how.”

Example: The former travelers may envision the form of a fire-breathing dragon in the cloud up ahead.  The latter travelers may instead take note that the cloud is grayer than the others and begin to wonder if it might be a rain cloud.

While all of us can and do approach situations in both manners, we each gravitate to one particular approach more often than the other.

2. Are You Mainly Results-Driven or Driven More By What is Considered Acceptable?

Some travelers are more driven to focus on doing what it takes to get results in the most efficient or effective way possible and may not consider whether they observed the rules until after the fact.

Others tend to focus more on what is acceptable to others or within the parameters of rules and norms and may not immediately consider the effectiveness of their actions.

Example:  The former travelers may choose not to follow the posted road detour signs in favor of what they think is a more expedient route, only to discover their selected path took them the wrong way down a one-way road.  The latter travelers decide to follow the road detour signs because that is the prescribed route, only to come to a near-standstill behind a tractor slowly crawling along the one-lane road they’ve been directed to follow.

Again, we each can and do act in both manners, but each of us leans towards one approach over the other.
